Step 1: Position a model flat shoe or picture of a

near your drawing to use as a guide. Draw the primary shape of the shoe with your pencil. In this case, draw the outline of the shoe and the strap that goes across it.
Step 2: Draw the opening of the shoe.Draw the opening of the shoe. This should be a line that follows the outside line of the shoe, curving in when the shoe curves in and fairly straight along the side of the shoe. Because this is a side profile of the shoe, end the line dividing the outside and inside of the shoe around the back of the heel and the side of the foot. This gives the image a three-dimensional feel, because you didn’t draw any parts of the shoe that you couldn’t see in front of you.
Step 3: Draw the outline of the sole.Draw the outline of the sole of the flat shoe. The sole of the shoe, like the opening, disappears out of view around the heel and just after wrapping around the toe of the shoe in the upper left-hand part of the drawing. Follow the line of the shoe in pencil and try to mimic the thickness of the shoe proportionally in the drawing–flat shoes should appear low to the ground, not like platform heels, for example.
Step 4: Draw the detail of the sole.Draw the detail of the sole. The flat shoe used as a model here has a sole that look like blunt teeth. This shape can be mimicked by making connected u-shapes along the sole of the shoe. Follow the line that you drew in Step 3. Darken in the lines that you’ve already drawn, making the flat shoe appear clearer.
Step 5: Draw stitching and seams that you see on the flat shoe.Draw stitching and seams that you see on the flat shoe. Shade in the sole to give it a three-dimensional look. There is a zigzag stitching pattern along the strap of the shoe, small dashes along the opening of the shoe and seams inside the shoe where the sole of the foot meets the side of the flat shoe.
To shade in the sole of the flat shoe, note where the light hits it to make it look three-dimensional. The part that bulges out in the teeth pattern appears darker and the grooves appear lighter. Mimic this when shading in the sole of the flat shoe…..
Step 6: Shade in the darkest part of the shoe.Use the side of your pencil to shade in the darkest part of the flat shoe. This flat shoe is darkest where the heel and the front of the foot rubbed the inside of the flat shoe, so use darker shading to reflect this.
Step 7: Shade in the rest of the shoe.Shade in the rest of the inside of the shoe lightly with your pencil. Look at the outside of the shoe and note where light hits it – shade in these parts lightly with your pencil. Use charcoal to color in the rest of the shoe.
